Eric Ng'imaryo, Is a New TAHA Chairperson

By ADAM IHUCHA-- The Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) has named Mr. Eric Ng’imaryo as its new Chairperson to spearhead the mutli-million-industry, succeeding Mr. Colman Ngalo, after his ten-year tenure. 

Along with Mr. Ng’imaryo, a vice Chair and eight Members of the TAHA board were also chosen at the TAHA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in Arusha, on 31st January, 2014. 

An accomplished Lawyer, Mr. Ng’imaryo has been the Chairman of Arusha Blooms Company Limited, a very active TAHA comprehensive member and one of the leading vegetable producers and exporters in the country. 

"I’m honored and humbled to have been selected as the TAHA Chairman and I’m very much looking at taking up the roles and responsibilities by working with the board and the Secretariat to ensure that our vision is attained “he said in an acceptance speech.

 Mr Ng’imaryo, who is also a commodity trader a farmer and creative writer, vowed to play his part in making TAHA even more of a success in the future. 

“I would also like to thank Mr. Colman Ngalo, the outgoing Chairperson, for his great leadership. Mr. Ngalo has been a beacon of TAHA for the last decade.” Mr. Ng’imaryo also extended gratitude to Ms Jacqueline Mkindi, the CEO, and the TAHA Secretariat for their strong contribution to TAHA and the industry.

“Jackie has been an exemplary CEO. Her commitment has commanded trust and respect from the Government and Development Partners” the new TAHA chief noted. 

In his speech, the outgoing Chairmam, Mr. Ngalo praised TAHA decision to elect Mr. Ng’imaryo as he confirmed his trust on him as a transformational leader who will take the industry body to the next level. 

“On behalf of the outgoing Board, I would like to congratulate Eric on his election as the Board Chairman and looking forward to working with him in the years ahead” Mr Ngalo, also a renowned lawyer explained. 

He said Ng’imaryo’s combination of his intimate knowledge in the horticultural industry and wide experience and expertise makes him an ideal person to take on the role of the Chairperson as TAHA and the industry continues its sustainable development.

“I would also like to thank the TAHA Secretariat and the members for their excellent cooperation over the last decade. We have achieved a great deal together. I am proud to be able to hand over a successful institution and still consider that there is still great potential for more growth at TAHA and the industry as whole.” Mr Ngalo noted.

The following were elected on the TAHA Board: Mrs  Fatma Riyami, Mr. Ravi Bhalerao, Mr.  Herald Peeters, Mr.  Juma Lossini, Mr. Robert Daniel, Mr. Tjerk Scheltema and Mr. Adrian Moss.  Mr. Juma Ally Juma has been elected as a Board representing the Zanzibar constituency.

TAHA is an apex private sector member based organization and has participated effectively in transforming the Tanzania horticulture since its establishment in year 2004. 

The association is currently the fastest growing farmer organization in the region which catalyzes actions and commitment in support of the industry development and inclusive growth. 

As a result of TAHA interventions, the horticultural industry has attracted enormous support from a number of partners including the government of Tanzania and the Development Partners such as USAID, BEST-AC, the Royal Netherlands Embassy, ITC, and Finnish Government. 

As a business oriented organization, TAHA offers an industry mouth piece, a voicing platforms safeguarding and promoting the interests of all the value chain actors in the horticultural industry namely producers, exporters, processors, and service providers of flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and horticultural seeds.
