IHUCHA -- Tanzania’s sole horticultural ground handling firm envisages
expanding its wings to the country’s three strategic gateways in its quest to
cater for a growing demand for logistics service.
TahaFresh
Handling Ltd – which handles ground handling services for horticultural exports
and imports alone—plans to extend its operations to Dar es Salaam and Tanga
ports as well as to Holili border post.
Currently,
the company operates at Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere and at
Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta international airports. It is extending its wings for the
first time since its inception way back in 2008.
General
manager Bob Kisamo says the by expanding, the company will serve its customers
— who prefer using the three gateways for both exports and imports — better.
“There’s a
growing demand for reliable logistics service in these three major entry points
and TahaFresh handling Ltd is positioning itself to seize the opportunity,” Mr
Kisamo explains.
TahaFresh
also offers other services ranging from airfreight forwarding to refrigerated
trucking and clearing and forwarding for all horticultural exports and imports
in the country.
Plans are
underway to introduce Sea Freight forwarding for horticultural exports through
the new operations.
In 2014, the
firm handled 2,500 tonnes of horticulture transported via sea, air and by
trucks.
Africado
company director, Mr James Parsons says that Taha Fresh helps his firm to
successfully handle a complex logistical chain for exporting fresh fruits
mainly avocado directly to Europe by sea.
Tanzania
Horticultural Association chief executive officer, Mr Jacqueline Mkindi, is
proud of Taha Fresh Handling Ltd, because it plays pivotal role in absorbing
costly and time-consuming cross-border non-tariff barriers to ease the burdens
that investors face.
TahaFresh continues
to operate, as a professional logistics operation taking its inspiration from
horticulture, but operating as professional logicians linked to, and affiliated
with the best international standard setters such as the International Air
Transport Association (Iata) and the International Federation of Freight
Forwarders Associations (Fiata).
