Arusha--- The
tourism industry in Tanzania has received a major boost after its annual Karibu
Travel Market Tanzania (TMT), one of the largest tourism show, received an East
African region endorsement.
The
UNWTO award winning in the category of Public Policy and Governance for the
Multi-destination Knowledge Management Tool, the East African Tourism Platform
(EATP), an organisation of the region’s stakeholders, has endorsed Karibu
TMT.
The EATP is
an apex body for tourism in East Africa setup to facilitate active and is
focused engagement of the private sector in EAC integration process.
In its just
ended EATP board meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda, the EATP, overwhelmingly
sanctioned Karibu TMT as the premier show to work with in Tanzania to spur
tourism industry.
As the
regional body responsible for promotion of responsible, sustainable and
universally accessible tourism, EATP’s endorsement of the Karibu TMT reinforces
the relevance of the Arusha based tourism fair to promote region tourist
attractions and to cement inter and intra-regional tourism.
“EATP
is supporting events like Karibu TMT fair in Tanzania, Kwita Izina in Rwanda,
Magical Kenya and Pearl of Africa in Uganda for tourism business to interact
and promote inter and intra tourism” EATP Regional Co-ordinator Ms Carmen Nibigira.
She
added: “Our vision is to see develop East Africa as a vibrant and diverse
single tourism destination providing exceptional experiences and services”.
The
16-year-old Karibu TMT show being held in EA region safari capital of Arusha,
is where companies and organizations meet, as well as top decision-makers,
experts, buyers and young professionals from every touristic area: Hotels,
tourism organizations, tour operators, travel agencies, transport companies,
booking portals, systems providers and all the others.
Owned
by Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO), Karibu TMT touted
as the East African premier travel and tourism
exhibition, would to be held at Magereza grounds near Arusha airport
on May 27th – 29,th in 2016.
“We are
very much delighted and definitely the move by the UNWTO award winning -EATP
will be a major boost in our decade effort to promote tourism industry” says
CEO of TATO, Sirili Akko.
The first
day, Mr Akko says, was set aside for trading only, and continuing on Saturday
and Sunday May 28th and 29th, 2016, which would be
open for public.
TATO
leadership is currently engaging in key marketing platforms such as ITB Berlin
and the World Travel Market (WTM) London to promote
the Karibu TMT as a premier regional fair.
“We expect
more international delegates this year” he explains. He urged TATO members and
other tourism stakeholders to encourage their partners from within the EA
region and overseas to take part in the show that would be graced by the
natural resources and tourism Minister, Prof Jumanne Maghembe.
Karibu TMT is
an annual business-to-business exhibition for travel industry professionals,
according to TATO CEO.
The
event also hosts the suppliers of travel and tourism products to showcase the
latest developments in the travel industry.
“It
brings together the largest global industry gathering of destinations, tour
operators, hotels, airlines, technology and online travel services under one
roof and covers a diverse range of sectors within the travel and tourism
industry” Mr Akko explains.
